Parenting expert and author Jennifer Ericksen presents to the APS

On August 18 Jennifer Ericksen, co-author of Towards Parenthood: Preparing for the changes and challenges of a new baby, presented to an interest group of psychologists from the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Ms Ericksen spoke about how Towards Parenthood was developed, evaluated and published, and the positive influences it has on parenting outcomes postnatally. To read more about her presentation click here.

The session was received well, indicative by the positive feedback and all copies of Towards Parenthood selling out!

ACER was proud to have provided a copy of Towards Parenthood as a door prize for the evening.

Ms Ericksen said that the 25 attendees were “impressed that the research on Towards Parenthood shows that it makes a significant positive difference to how couples make the transition to parenthood. A claim not many parenting books can make.”

Jennifer Ericksen is a clinical psychologist and Manager of Perinatal Mental Health Services and Training, Parent-Infant Research Institute, Austin Health. The institute is a large treatment centre for Perinatal depression and anxiety, specialising in developing and evaluating interventions. She provides training to Maternal and Child Health Nurses, Psychologists, General Practitioners and Midwives. She has contributed to Treating Postnatal Depression. A Psychological Approach for Health Care Practitioners by Milgrom, J., Martin, P.R. & Negri, L. Chichester: Wiley, 1999 and Overcoming Depression , by Ericksen J. Milgrom J.M. PIRI 2011.
