About the workshop
ACER invites you to the Conners workshop with international guest presenter, Hazel Wheldon.
Hazel will address the pivotal role of school psychologists in the diagnosis, treatment, intervention monitoring and educational management of students with behavioural and emotional issues.
The four main components of the workshop are:
1. Overview of critical clinical issues in school-aged children
2. Introduction of the DSM V
3. Overview of the comprehensive assessment process (with an introduction to the Conners family of products, C3, CBRS, and EC)
4. Discussion of treatment and intervention process of students in need.
By the completion of this workshop, participants will have acquired the following practical skills and principles that can be directly applied in their educational setting.
Workshop objectives
1. Provide conceptual level overview of most common issues that occur in school-aged youth, inclusive of behavioural, emotional, social, and academic issues.
2. Discuss relevant DSM-IV-TR diagnoses vs proposed changes to DSM V. The impact of these changes will also be discussed.
3. Acquire practical skills and principles in the use of comprehensive assessments and introduce the Conners 3rd Edition (Conners 3™) – continuing the tradition of evaluating ADHD-related symptoms in children and adolescents, but also addresses executive function, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD) in more depth to assist in differential diagnoses.
4. Introduce the Conners Comprehensive Behavior Rating Scales (Conners CBRS™) – a new measure that provides comprehensive coverage of a broad range of childhood disorders and concerns. Both can be administered to parents, teachers, and youth.
5. Introduce the Conners Early Childhood (Conners EC™) – a new assessment that aids in the early identification (2-6 years) of behavioural, social and emotional problems.
6. Discuss the treatment and intervention process and how the Conners 3™ , Conners CBRS™, and the Conners EC™ scales aid in identification of critical clinical issues in school-aged youth, including DSM-IV-TR diagnosis.
The workshop will feature a personal Q&A time with Hazel Wheldon.
